On October 3, 2022, ASCP attended the National Academies’ (NAM)
National Plan for Health Workforce Well-Being Launch Event. The NAM Clinician Well-Being Collaborative shared remarks from champions of health workers in Congress, a vision for where to go next from the Collaborative’s leadership - including a first overview of the newly released Plan and keynotes on sparking a national movement.
The National Plan identifies specific, near-term actions to achieve the following priorities:
· Create and sustain positive work and learning environments and culture
· Invest in measurement, assessment, strategies, and research
· Support mental health and reduce stigma
· Address compliance, regulatory, and policy barriers for daily work
· Engage effective technology tools
· Institutionalize well-being as a long-term value
· Recruit and retain a diverse and inclusive health workforce
ASCP is currently reviewing the National Plan to determine how this can support the laboratory workforce especially since our data indicates that laboratory professionals are also experiencing burnout pre-and post- COVID-19. We continue to conduct research and advocacy to promote job satisfaction and well-being for the laboratory field.
